KEY REPORT ON CHELTENHAM’S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY BY ROB DUNCAN, CHAMBER PLANNING ADVISOR
For all of you who are interested in the overall economic well-being and future of Cheltenham, a recent report prepared for the Borough Council by Athey Consulting - is well worth reading. The Town’s previous economic strategy is so far out of date that it is virtually non-existent and as a result Athey were instructed to carry out a review setting out an economic strategy developing Cheltenham as a business location.
The report summarises the analysis and findings of the consultancy project it has undertaken and covers three main components of the work underpinning the project, namely the Cheltenham Economic Assessment, a site analysis, Employment Land Review and the key findings from the consultation meetings and Interviews.
It highlights some of the Town’s weaknesses which include the lack of an adequate supply of premises and employment land and the business perception that Cheltenham is “full” and does not support business. However it also says that all is not lost and that there are strengths and good opportunities for the Town but it needs action now to secure the position.
A very good report that needs to be acted upon. (Read Report)
