CHELTENHAM CHAMBER CALLS FOR ALL EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LAND TO BE PROTECTED FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH AND NEW JOBS!
At a recent meeting Cheltenham Chamber of Commerce agreed that land already designated as Employment land should be safe-guarded to prevent any further changes of use from employment to housing, and also no more office buildings should be converted to housing.
“We have seen a steady decline in the amount of employment land available for new businesses to set up in Cheltenham or for existing businesses to expand in Cheltenham which means that we cannot create local jobs for local people”, commented the Chamber’s Planning Executive, Rob Duncan “A report published by Cheltenham Borough Council last year highlights some of the Town’s weaknesses which include the lack of an adequate supply of premises and employment land and the business perception that Cheltenham is ‘full’ and does not support business.”
“We cannot have economic growth and new jobs in Cheltenham if we build on our existing employment land, commented Michael Ratcliffe, Chief Executive of Cheltenham Chamber of Commerce, “We call on the local authority and local decision makers to ensure that Cheltenham remains open to new businesses and new jobs through protecting our employment land.”
