CHAMBER OF COMMERCE FLYING THE FLAG FOR BUSINESSES IN CHELTENHAMThe Chamber is playing an important role in promoting business in Cheltenham in a number of ways:
Ensuring the voice of Cheltenham Businesses is heard by local authorities, the Local Employment Partnership, the local MP and other decision makers
The Chamber recently entered a worldwide Green Environmental competition submitting a paper which showed how waste material could produce hydrogen as a carbon free energy and making Ultra Light Railways viable for medium sized Towns like Cheltenham. The idea would be to link Cheltenham Station with the Racecourse and the town centre. We were runners up and the recipients of some £25,000 towards feasibility costs!
Last May the Chamber together with the University hosted a Q & A session with Nick Clegg (Deputy Prime Minister). This was followed up during September by a further Q & A session with Vince Cable, Secretary of State for Business, at the Parabola Arts Centre.
The Chamber have participated and continue to participate in numerous events at both Borough and County level where our views are not only respected but are also helping to shape the future of our Town and County
In 2013 we are planning to provide even more support to local businesses in Cheltenham by:
Launching the new website where local businesses can advertise and raise their profile as well as access valuable information.
Offering a hot desking facility in the Chamber HQ for Chamber members to use
Hosting seminars for Cheltenham businesses where local businesses can talk to potential clients as well as the Chamber providing their own seminars where members can influence decision makers or gain valuable information and insights into issue of concern to them.
At our AGM Martin Quantock was elected as the new President of Cheltenham Chamber of Commerce. Martin is well known to local businesses as the Town Centre Manager and he plays a key role in support new and existing businesses in Cheltenham. Along with our Chief executive, Michael Ratcliffe, he will lead our knowledgeable and experience team that was elected at the AGM. (Details attached)
We are flying the flag for businesses in Cheltenham and will support them to become even more successful. commented Martin Quantock. The launch of our new website will be a great opportunity to promote local businesses and we are inviting businesses to advertise on our website.
Our guest speaker at the AGM was Edward Gillespie, the former Chief Executive of Cheltenham Racecourse, and he shared with us the news that there is to be a multi-million pound redevelopment of the racecourse. This will secure the future of the racecourse as well as increasing its contribution to the local economy and local businesses.
