Friends of Cheltenham Samaritans – Latest News

After a 2-year delay, the 15th Friends of Cheltenham Samaritans Beer & Cider Festival was finally held on Saturday 11th June. Thanks to some amazing weather, the festival proved to be a huge success with over 500 people drinking more than 2000 pints of beer and cider and most importantly raising just over £8,500 for the important work of the local Samaritans Branch.

Chairman of the Friends Leigh Norwood said, “Interest in craft beers has been coming to a peak over the last few years, and the sheer variety of styles and tastes available meant there was something for everyone”.

The event featured a fantastic collection of craft beers, including a number from local breweries in and around Cheltenham, including Deya, Ashton, Cotswold Lion, Goffs and Werkstatbier as well as many beers from Bristol and further afield. Nearly every beer and cider was sponsored by local people or businesses, helping to maximise the profits for charity.

Throughout the day a host of local musicians and performers kept people entertained in the music marquee and local food trucks helped people soak up the beer.

Cllr Steve Harvey, Mayor of Cheltenham 2021-22 and Charlton Park Ward Councillor CBC said, “After a two year hiatus due to Covid, I was very pleased to see the return of the Friends of Cheltenham Samaritans Craft Beer and Cider Festival at the Old Patesians Rugby Club, and very happy to Sponsor a barrel. Not only is the event in my Ward but the FofSams were my Mayors Charity 2021-22. The weather was kind and a sell-out saw many families enjoy a day in the glorious sunshine. I look forward to their next beer festival in November”.
