Guarding the Gates: cyber security insights for small businesses

27th September 2023 @ 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

SMEs are increasingly becoming targets of cyber threats. But for a growing business, where does cyber security fit in an organisation? Sometimes it can be hard to know where to begin, especially if you don’t have a designated resource.

If you are starting out on your cyber journey, or looking for advice, best practice and actionable takeaways to implement in your own organisation, then this is the event is for you.

We’ve teamed up with Detective Superintendent Vanessa Eyles, Director of The Cyber Resilience Centre for the West Midlands, governance, risk and compliance expert Helen Barge (Risk Evolves) and cyber champion Illyana Mullins, Founder of WiTCH and Tech Forward, to provide security insights and guidance specifically aimed at small businesses.

What can you expect?

• Learn more about security, resilience and how to protect your business from cyber threats and security breaches (without the tech talk) in sessions from our key speakers:

Vanessa Eyles, Director of The Cyber Resilience Centre for the West Midlands, will provide a background to the work of the Cyber Resilience Centre, as well as explaining the risks that small business should be aware of and the role of the police in helping protect our digital world.

Having worked with the likes of the Growth Hub and Hub8, Illyana Mullins has quickly become a central figure in the Cheltenham cyber community. In her session, Illyana will be heading up an interactive discussion around the human aspect of cyber security.

Representing the FSB, Helen Barge will be looking at the security challenges of small businesses, from the challenges their members may experience when thinking about cyber to the issues that both the FSB and Risk Evolve see every day.

• Can you spot a phish? Put your own skills and knowledge to the test with North Green’s Spot the Hook interactive workshop. You’ll also learn more about the latest phishing techniques and the importance of training and employee awareness.

• The opportunity to network with other local and regional businesses

• Plenty of free, practical takeaways, ready to put into action in your own business.
