SUMMARY:The Gloucester Citizen at 150 with Ian Mean
DESCRIPTION:Part of the Gloucester History Festival\, enjoy this talk with former editor\, well known figure on the local business scene and Honorary Chamber Board Member \nFor 150 years\, The Gloucester Citizen chronicled the triumphs\, tragedies and everyday lives of Gloucestershire’s people. But its story stretches right back to the founding of The Gloucester Journal in 1722\, one of Britain’s oldest provincial newspapers. Legendary Citizen and Western Daily Press Editor Ian Mean explores its unique publishing history\, breaking the big stories and recording everything\, from the opening of Gloucester Docks and Victorian cheese rolling to advertisements for coachmen\, milkmen and machinists. Chaired by BBC broadcaster Vernon Harwood\, this unique event celebrates local journalism’s enduring role and asks what the future holds for trusted news in the digital age. \nMore info and tickets here>>
