I created Trade Off to help people swap skills, save money and build networks and communities.

Skill swapping isn’t a new concept at all. People have been doing it for years, and actually, most of us probably do it naturally without even thinking about it — whether that’s helping someone out at work, swapping jobs at home, or doing a favour for a friend.

I’m a beauty therapist, and I’ve been swapping treatments for years. I’ve swapped beauty treatments for things like cleaning and dog walking.

But since creating Trade Off, it’s opened it up to so much more. I’ve managed to get singing lessons and an English tutor for my children, and I’ve already saved myself hundreds of pounds.

And that’s exactly why I created the app.

At the moment, we’re piloting Trade Off in Gloucestershire, and it’s completely free to download, join and connect with people.

You can trade locally, but you can also trade remotely. So, for example, if you needed someone to do your accounts and you could build them a website in return, that could all be done remotely — they don’t have to live anywhere near you.

The possibilities are pretty much endless.

The app is still really new, so I’m looking for as many people as possible to download it, have a play around with it and give me feedback. If there’s something you think could work better or something you’d like to see on there, please tell me. That feedback is really important while we’re growing it.
