Flourish Magazine, the magazine by and for people living with and beyond cancer, will be releasing its fifth issue across the South West on Monday 16 September on the theme of ‘Body’, featuring artwork, textiles, photography, creative writing, sculpture and more.
The magazine is distributed across healthcare centres, hospitals, hospices and cancer charities across the South West, as well as being available to read online for free. Each issue explores a different theme, and combines interviews, features, resources and expert information with creative submissions from those living with and beyond cancer received through an open call.
‘Living with and beyond cancer’ can mean those going through cancer themselves, or those who’ve experienced cancer through a loved one or their profession. The open call for submissions for Issue 6 on the theme of ‘Mind’ is now open – with the deadline to submit Friday 31st January 2025. No experience is necessary to apply.
Founded by creative health charity Artlift and the UK’s integrative cancer care charity Yes to Life, Flourish magazine aims to explore the benefits of an integrative and creative approach to living with cancer. The magazine is created with the support of a steering group that includes people living with cancer and partners Macmillan, Macmillan Next Steps and Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, and has received funding from Arts Council England.
Editor-in-Chief Natalie Beech said:
“It’s been an honour to put together Issue 5 of Flourish Magazine, this time looking at the theme of the ‘Body’. For a long time we’ve wanted to tackle the difficult subject of how we feel about our bodies when living with cancer, and as always the submissions we’ve received have astounded us in their courage, quality and creativity. I’m delighted to share it with the world!”
