HCR Law raised more than £153,000 for local charities across its 13 offices in the last year

Hundreds of HCR staff across the firm donated, volunteered, baked, quizzed, wrapped presents, bought cakes and cheered on colleagues in netball, padel, football and other challenges, including walking the entire length of the River Wye and climbing the Three Peaks.

And the firm has already set an ambitious target of raising £160,000 for 2026/27.

HCR Law Partner Adam Finch serves as Charity Fundraising Partner for the firm, overseeing and coordinating the firm’s wide-ranging charitable activities.

He said: “Colleagues from all corners of the firm have taken it upon themselves to organise activities every month.  Their energy and enthusiasm has been truly infectious. With the momentum we’ve built across all our 13 offices, I’m confident we can exceed our new target.”

HCR Law Fundraising has taken many forms, from inspiring a love of reading in local schoolchildren to pulling on wellies to weed and tidy the garden at Cheltenham Hospital’s oncology department.

The firm’s annual flagship event is Chariots of Fire organised by our Cambridge office team. This six-person relay race has been run through Cambridge’s university colleges and past landmarks every September for more than 30 years and out charity partner for this September’s Chariots of Fire was the British Heart Foundation.

Sarah Lennon, Head of Community Fundraising, British Heart Foundation said: “Thanks to everyone at HCR Law for the energy, enthusiasm and support they brought to the run. Every pound we raised helps power lifesaving research and gives hope to people living with heart and circulatory diseases.”

A key objective for HCR Law this year was to increase participation in payroll giving, which we did by 85% on the previous year, and the firm hopes to increase the figure again this year.

Zara Shah is a lawyer in HR, Employment, HR and Immigration team based in our Birmingham office: She said: “I have been a charity ambassador for HCR Law’s Birmingham office for two years and we are currently supporting Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity. I enjoy being a charity fundraiser because I believe that kindness and generosity can make a real difference to people’s lives. As a Muslim, giving to charity is an important part of my faith. It supports those in need and helps to build a more caring community.”

Zoe Atkinson, Head of Business Applications in our Worcester office has been a charity ambassador for four years. She added: “Seeing the difference we can make together as a team is always a highlight and one of the most fulfilling aspects of the role.”

Cara Keen, a Partner in our Norwich office. added: “A charity ambassador can bring the office together around a brilliant local cause, this year that’s Norwich Foodbank. It’s also a fantastic way to get to know colleagues in other teams.”

Charlotte Evans is a paralegal in our Worcester office. She said: “Making a positive difference is something I care deeply about, especially in my personal life, so being able to do that through HCR makes the impact even greater.”

Adam continued: “Supporting the wider community is incredibly important to us and while the headline fundraising figure is important, because that’s what the charities need to function, it’s only the tip of the iceberg of the investment of time and energy, enthusiasm and passion our firm makes, which no-one can really put a figure on. We are proud of everyone who got involved this year.”

Through the HCR Law Charitable Trust, staff across the firm’s 13 offices raise money for charities which meet a real local community need. Over the last 30 years, the firm has raised more than £2M, thanks to the enthusiasm and commitment of its employees who are united in raising money for each offices’ dedicated charities alongside supporting firmwide charity events.
