How the Golden Valley Development is shaping up

Cyber developments are happening all the time across the country. We are incredibly fortunate to have a major development taking place here in Cheltenham.

The Golden Valley Development is being developed to be a hive of activity and industry. Cyber Central is at its heart. Innovation hubs, labs and lots of space for start-ups and scale-ups are all a part of the plan. It is one of the biggest things to happen to Cheltenham since GCHQ created their new site.

With cyber being at the heart of the development, the region is going to become a place for innovation and research into cyber defence and cyber security.

Timeline of the Project

The project will begin phase 1 construction in 2023, with the planning applications being submitted in the third quarter of this year. Road improvements are currently underway to make access to and from the site easier, and businesses can register their interest in occupancy on the website. As well as the creation of space for digital and creative businesses, there are also plans for residential and leisure buildings.

Garden communities will be created. These are government initiative that provides mixed-use buildings. It will also see the development of communities. These communities are places where people can live, work and relax in their leisure time and that they can develop for future generations.

Exciting conversations are happening

The Golden Valley Development was described in the UK Government’s National Cyber Strategy as a key organisation. It will help to “foster the growth of a sustainable, innovative and internationally competitive cyber and information security sector.”

On 25th January Julia Lopez, Minister for Media, Data and Digital Infrastructure visited Cheltenham and saw ambitions for the future of the project. These were shared by Gloucestershire College, Hub8, Cheltenham Borough Council and the Western Gateway.

The growth of the cyber sector in the region is being driven by CyNam, which are developing initiatives and partnerships to support this industry further.

Our hopes for the Project

We are excited to have Reid Derby coming to speak at our Breakfast at The Ivy event on Wednesday 23rd February from 8 am. He will be discussing the progress of the development further. We will also hear from one of our Executive Team, Jason Kalwa on the ways this development will help further his work in Cyber Infrastructure.

We hope that local companies and small business owners will have opportunities to engage with the developers to provide their products and services.

The Golden Valley Development is an exciting prospect for the town. As a ‘Family of Businesses’, we will bring you opportunities that present themselves to be a part of this project as it enters its next stages.
