Cheltenham International Film Festival (CIFF) marks its fifth anniversary in 2023, moving from its original mid-May dates to 15 – 24 September 2023. The festival plans to screen 30 plus new films from around the world plus classics and is adding a number of new live events with guest celebrities.

CELEBRATE
The Festival will CELEBRATE the career of one of cinema’s leading actors following on from last year when we celebrated and welcomed to Cheltenham, Dame Judi Dench.
TRIBUTE
The festival shall recognise the contribution made by directors to the legacy of great cinema by nominating one director, every year, to be a recipient of our official TRIBUTE.
IN COMPETITION/BEST FILM
In 2020, the Festival introduced films ‘IN COMPETITION’ with a jury selecting BEST FILM open only to best emerging filmmakers. This year the jury is led by incoming Chair of BAFTA, Sara Putt.
FESTIVAL STRANDS – NEW AND OLD
The Festival plans to introduce a new strand, “25, 50, 100”, to mark the anniversaries of the film

classics released 25, 50 and 100 years ago; including film screenings and live events with high profile guests, talks, music and more.
COUNTRY FOCUS this year is Spain. We shall screen the films of five emerging and celebrated Spanish filmmakers to showcase the country’s best, and to complement our Spanish theme with cultural events and an opening night fiesta of Spanish food and song..
And, we are partnering with Cheltenham Jazz Festival on one or two events, film screenings and live, to link FILM with JAZZ.
