Thanks to the work of local not-for-profit Public Hearts and their supporters, there are now
55 public access life-saving-defibrillators in and around Cheltenham.
Every year in the UK there are about 30,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests, where the heart
stops beating, and the normal chances of survival are about one-in-ten. Using a defibrillator
and applying CPR rapidly can increase those chances of survival by up to 80%.
Having prompt access to a defibrillator nearby can literally save lives. By dialling 999 and
following instructions that make it very clear on how to use a defibrillator, you can help to
save someone’s life until the emergency services arrive.
Being aware of the location of your nearest defibrillator can be so beneficial, which is why
Public Hearts, the Chamber of Commerce and Cheltenham BID have joined forces to
distribute cards to shops and businesses in central Cheltenham. They invite people to “Get
to know your local Life Saver,” and show the location of the defibs in the town centre.
According to Public Hearts founder, Clare Seed of Tidal Training Direct Ltd “Our not-forprofit
community defibrillator campaign, Public Hearts, is delighted to facilitate as many
lifesaving and life changing defibrillators to support those who live, work and enjoy our
Festival Town. Thanks to our impactful and collaborative relationships with key partners
Cheltenham BID and Cheltenham Chamber of Commerce, this postcard is an insightful go-to
guide to 15 of the nearest defibrillators in Cheltenham Town Centre which are accessible and
available to all.”
The town’s defibrillators, their installation and upkeep have only been possible through the
support of donors, including Spirax Sarco, Evans Jones, Bob Holt OBE, Chun Kong and Tidal
Michael Ratcliffe from Cheltenham Chamber said “We are delighted to support the work of
Public Hearts. From the beginning we have been supporting the valuable work which Clare
has been doing and being able to celebrate the current milestone by creating these
postcards has been a really positive step in making everyone aware as to their location”.
Everyone should connect to the website Public Hearts Defib Hub sharing a wealth of
information and showing where their nearest defibrillator is by scanning the QR code shown
on the postcards.
