In an excellent talk on 10th June, Mike Redman, Director of Environment, Cheltenham Borough Council, demonstrated just how urgently we need to reduce carbon and our dependence on fossil fuels.
He talked about how much the Council is already doing but stressed that everyone must play a part.
Currently, Cheltenham has the same carbon footprint as the entire country of Belize.
Businesses have a key role and can show real commitment to supporting carbon reduction.A view the Chamber strongly supports.
They can of course reduce their own carbon footprints across their entire supply chains. There are numerous online resources to help businesses achieve this – for example. https://www.businessgreen.com
Many businesses benefit significantly by adopting this as part of a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) strategy. Not only can this improve their reputation as customers increasingly value this, but many find it actually saves rather than costs them money.
The Chamber urges businesses to sign up to the Cheltenham Zero Commitment that the Council has created in partnership with Vision 21.
